Prof. Dr med. dent. Matthias Kern completed his undergraduate education in dentistry in Freiburg, Germany, in 1985.   He coauthored the dental journal, Ten-year outcome of zirconia ceramic cantilever resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses and the influence of the reasons for missing incisors

He obtained his postdoctoral lecture qualification in 1995 and was assigned the position of Academic Director and Vice Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics, Dental School, University of Freiburg. In 1997, he became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics, Propaedeutics and Dental Materials, School of Dentistry, Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel, Germany. In December 2011, Dr Kern received the Schweitzer Research Award of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP). And in June 2012, he became President of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Prothetische Zahnmedizin und Biomaterialien).
