How do you actually vet a workshop before trusting them with your Jeep?

Genuine question because I feel like I keep getting it wrong. Every time I need work done on my Cherokee I spend hours reading reviews, checking social media, asking in groups, and somehow I still end up at a place that either overcharges or does sloppy work. Last guy left a hose clamp loose and I only found out because I smelled coolant a week later. So now I am trying to build a proper checklist before I hand over the keys anywhere. Do you visit the shop first and look around, ask to see their diagnostic gear, request photos of the work, or just go off how they talk to you on the phone? I saw a page where you can click here to learn more about how one place describes their process, and I am tempted to use that as a baseline for what a proper workshop should actually offer. Would love to hear how the more experienced owners here separate the real shops from the ones that just talk a good game.
